I think the older generation believes that we were the 'just a phase' generation because the number of publicly out and accepted celebrities made people want to 'try out' queerness. I know a lot of people who were told that and then stepped back into the closet. A lot those people are coming back out now that we're approaching 40. It's never just a phase. Identities can change but that doesn't mean the previous ones were faked.
